Pre production - theory

Andrew Goodwin split his theory into five parts, I am going to correspond these with or music video based on his theory.
I found this image on google by a previous A2 student and thought it was very useful in applying the theory to our video.

Thought beats.
Thought beats is where you see the sound. This is a really important feature of our video, as we have chosen to put a music video to an already known song and now use an amateur band for example we need to make our video aesthetically strong as our performance shots won't be as effective as live performance footage. Our song is by Chase and Status who are dj's and this means the beat and tempo of the song is crucial. We have planned shots and a structure around the beat of the song and will edit our video so you can see the sound.

Narrative and performance.
We plan to integrate narrative and performance together in our music video. The beginning verse will be a mixture of performance and very little narrative but the middle section is more narrative based compared to performance although performance will be a consistent feature we think the narrative of our video is more important due to our artist being a solo artist and wanting to make an impact with an introductory video. Our star will act as both narrator and participant to help increase authenticity.

The star image.
We are going to portray our artist as a genuine and desirable character and stay as far away from representations of a stuck up and materialistic main stream artist as possible. Our artist will be shown to be in touch with her feelings and will not be dressed provocatively but rather in popular clothes with her own edge to be accessible by the audience whilst still clearly a celebrity in her own right.

Relations of visual to song.
A consistent feature and shot in our video will be the cut to a clock when the lyrics "time" occur. This will relate the visuals back to the song where as our other visuals may not be as obviously related such as a lemon and slow motion water which at surface value don't seem to relate to the song, in deeper thought the lemon represents bitter sweet emotion in the song and slow motion water shows the impact of time.

Technical aspects of the music video.
Our editing is going to be a vital part of our video as our footage will be fairly basic until edited with the music to make a rhythmic and aesthetically pleasing piece. The angles of our shots aren't as important but we can alter the angle of the memories section to portray a certain scene. Lighting will be vital to section off the artist section with the memories as the memories part will be much lighter to represent a happier time. Our mise en scene will hopefully look authentic so we can gain professionalism which will make our video look loads better.
